National News – The Governor of Usman Ododo on Wednesday officially handed over the construction of a multi-billion-naira international airport project in Kogi State to contractors, marking a major step in the state’s infrastructure expansion plan.
The ceremony, held in the state, signaled the beginning of construction aimed at boosting investment, improving transportation, and strengthening economic development in the region.
The project is expected to connect Kogi to major economic centres within Nigeria and internationally.
Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku, the governor explained that the airport project is designed to unlock Kogi State’s economic potential.
According to him, the facility will serve as a strategic gateway for trade, business activities, and tourism once completed.
He noted that the government initiated the project to create jobs, attract investors, and stimulate long-term economic growth for residents and businesses.
Ododo stated that the airport will encourage multinational companies and high-net-worth investors to explore opportunities in the state.
He added that local artisans, small businesses, and service providers would also benefit from increased commercial activities linked to the aviation hub.
The project is part of the administration’s broader strategy to diversify the state’s economy beyond traditional revenue sources.
The construction contract was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gamji Construction Company, both tasked with delivering the project according to international aviation standards.
The governor urged the contractors to maintain professionalism, quality assurance, and strict adherence to specifications while ensuring timely delivery.
He further appealed to host communities and residents to support the project to guarantee smooth implementation.
Ododo also reassured investors that his administration would provide adequate security for lives and property, emphasising that a stable environment is essential for sustainable development.
The airport initiative, he said, goes beyond aviation infrastructure, serving as a catalyst for economic diversification, improved connectivity, and increased trade.
Once completed, the facility is expected to strengthen Kogi’s position as a strategic investment destination in Nigeria.
