National News – The President of Orisun Igbomina and Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Gbenga Awoyale, has urged party stakeholders to avoid automatic return tickets for serving lawmakers ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that democracy must remain competitive, fair, and accountable.
According to him, no elected official should assume entitlement to a return ticket without subjecting themselves to transparent party primaries and grassroots scrutiny.
Speaking in a statement issued on Friday, May 8, 2026, Awoyale warned that granting automatic tickets undermines internal democracy and discourages aspirants in Kwara South Senatorial District.
He added that such practices could weaken party unity and reduce healthy political competition within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
He stressed that Kwara South politics must reflect equity among Ibolo, Ekiti, and Igbomina blocs, arguing that the Igbomina axis has been underrepresented compared to others.
He said addressing historical imbalance is essential for inclusion, peace, and long-term political stability in the region.
Awoyale further called on the APC leadership in Kwara State to ensure a transparent and level playing field for all aspirants, warning that imposition could create internal conflict ahead of the 2027 polls.
He warned that lack of fairness could damage the party’s credibility and weaken its electoral strength in future contests.
He maintained that incumbency should not guarantee automatic tickets, stating that performance, grassroots engagement, legislative impact, and accountability must determine who represents the people.
He emphasised constituency projects delivery and oversight responsibility as key benchmarks for evaluating lawmakers’ performance.
He concluded that 2027 elections should prioritise merit, unity, and fairness, ensuring that voters in Kwara South choose leaders who truly represent their interests.
He urged stronger grassroots empowerment and democratic participation to ensure legitimacy of elected representatives.
