National News – The Kwara State Government has announced that the airlift of intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj will begin on May 6, 2026, from the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin, with Saudi Arabia as the destination.

The disclosure was made by the Executive Secretary of the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, during an enlightenment programme for prospective pilgrims.

The phased departure plan will see the second batch leave on May 7, while the third batch is scheduled for May 9, ensuring an organised and efficient travel process.

According to officials, the structured airlift arrangement is designed to enhance coordination and reduce congestion during the pilgrimage exercise.

Abdulkadir explained that Saudi authorities have introduced new identification measures, including ID cards containing pilgrims’ personal details.

These cards will be issued upon arrival in Medina and are intended to improve safety, tracking, and seamless participation in Hajj rites in Mecca.

The Chairman of the Board, Mashood Mahmud-Jimba, commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his continued support, noting that the state government has prioritised smooth Hajj operations.

He assured intending pilgrims that all logistics, including accommodation, transportation, and tents in Mina and Arafat, have been fully secured ahead of their arrival.

Religious leaders also urged pilgrims to maintain discipline and spiritual focus throughout the journey.

The Grand Khadi of the Kwara State Shariah Court of Appeal, Abdullateef Kamaldeen, advised participants to uphold patience, righteousness, and devotion while performing their religious obligations in the Holy Land.

Special prayers were offered for a hitch-free exercise, led by prominent Islamic leaders including the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Abdulhameed Abdullahi, alongside Imam Gambari and this year’s Amir Hajj, the Etsu Tsaragi, Aliyu Kpotwa.
