National News – The Kwara State Government has launched a standardised health counselling system designed to ensure residents receive accurate and uniform healthcare information across hospitals, clinics, and community outreach programmes.
The initiative, introduced in partnership with the Society for Family Health, focuses on improving public understanding of healthcare services and strengthening grassroots behavioural change campaigns statewide.
The programme was unveiled in Ilorin on Thursday by the Kwara State Ministry of Health through the deployment of an Integrated Health Facility Flip Chart for frontline health workers, mobilisation officers, and community volunteers.
According to the Commissioner for Health, Amina Ahmed El-Imam, the initiative seeks to eliminate inconsistent health messages and improve healthcare outcomes in both urban and rural communities.
Represented by the Director of Public Health, Fakoyode Oluwatosin, the commissioner explained that health promotion remains essential for achieving sustainable public health interventions.
She noted that the new counselling tool would guide healthcare workers during antenatal clinics, immunisation exercises, household visits, and community health outreaches.
The government stated that the flip chart would improve awareness and encourage service uptake in key healthcare areas, including maternal and child health, exclusive breastfeeding, malaria prevention, routine immunisation, hygiene, sanitation, diarrhoea management, and skilled birth attendance.
State Mobilisation Officers across the 16 local government areas are expected to coordinate the programme’s implementation.
Also speaking, the Reproductive Health Coordinator at the ministry, Kafayat Kofo, described the initiative as a unified behavioural change resource that harmonises counselling messages across reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent healthcare services.
Officials believe the programme will strengthen trust in public healthcare communication, improve community engagement, and enhance healthcare delivery across Kwara State through clear, consistent, and reliable health education.
