National News – Kwara State University, Malete, has announced the discontinuation of its Top-Up/HND Conversion programme beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session, following directives issued by the National Universities Commission.

The decision was disclosed on Monday in a statement signed by the university registrar, Kikelomo Sallee.

According to the institution, the move is part of efforts to comply fully with regulations set by the NUC, the agency responsible for supervising universities across Nigeria.

The university explained that the programme will no longer admit candidates from the upcoming academic session.

The statement noted that the commission would later determine the status of students currently enrolled in the HND conversion programme.

KWASU assured affected students and stakeholders that additional guidelines would be communicated in due course.

The university also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining academic standards, ethical practices, and strict compliance with all policies guiding tertiary education in Nigeria.

Management stressed that the institution remains focused on delivering quality education despite the programme’s discontinuation.

The development comes shortly after KWASU secured full accreditation for nine undergraduate programmes during the NUC’s October and November 2025 accreditation exercise.

The accreditation approval was communicated in a letter dated April 7, 2026, signed by the NUC Director of Accreditation, Abraham Chundusu.

Programmes that received full accreditation include Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Environmental Health Science, English, Linguistics, Performing Arts, Computer Science, and Microbiology.

The accreditation is expected to remain valid for three years.

Reacting to the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, described the accreditation as evidence of the university’s dedication to academic excellence and sustainable educational growth.

He urged members of the institution to continue providing quality service to strengthen the university’s reputation.
