National News – Alex Otti has declared that the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party is over, following the successful conduct of the party’s elective national convention held on April 28 in Umuahia.
Speaking on Thursday at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja, Otti said the party had overcome its most difficult period and was now focused on rebuilding unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration during the maiden inaugural meeting of the newly elected National Working Committee, led by Nenadi Usman.
He said the convention marked a turning point for the party after months of internal disputes and leadership disagreements.
Otti stressed that there was no victor or loser in the reconciliation process, noting that all members remain vital to the future of the party.
According to him, over 25 state chairmen from rival factions attended the convention, with some securing positions in the newly formed leadership structure.
He explained that the new leadership had been tasked with restoring unity, reconciling aggrieved members, and reopening the party’s doors to all stakeholders, including former factional leaders.
Otti emphasised that careful communication, discipline, and collective responsibility would guide the party’s next phase.
The Abia governor also praised the convention planning committee for organising what he described as a peaceful and transparent exercise.
He reassured the new executives of his support and urged them to serve with diligence and integrity.
Members of the National Working Committee commended Otti for his commitment during the party’s turbulent period, saying his leadership helped stabilise the platform.
They pledged loyalty and readiness to strengthen the Labour Party as it prepares for future political contests across Nigeria.
