National News – Lionel Messi has sparked fresh injury concerns ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Inter Miami CF confirmed that the Argentine captain is suffering from left hamstring fatigue.

The football icon was forced off during Inter Miami’s dramatic 6-4 Major League Soccer victory against Philadelphia Union on Sunday in Miami, raising fears over his fitness just weeks before the global tournament begins.

The 38-year-old forward reportedly grabbed the back of his left leg in the 73rd minute before requesting to be substituted.

Medical examinations carried out on Monday revealed muscle overload linked to fatigue in his left hamstring. Club officials, however, did not provide a definite date for his return to action.

Inter Miami explained that Messi’s recovery timeline would depend on his physical response and clinical progress.

Although the club attempted to calm concerns, uncertainty remains over whether the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will be fully fit for Argentina’s World Cup campaign.

Argentina are expected to begin their title defence against Algeria on June 16 in Kansas City after the tournament kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Messi is also expected to feature in Argentina’s preparatory friendly matches against Honduras and Iceland in early June if declared fit.

Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, Messi has carefully managed his playing schedule due to workload concerns and recurring fitness issues.

Team officials have regularly rested him during congested fixtures to maintain his condition for major competitions.

Football fans worldwide are now waiting anxiously for further updates as Argentina prepares to announce its final World Cup squad next week.

Messi’s availability could play a major role in the defending champions’ hopes of retaining football’s biggest prize.
