National News – Michael B. Jordan has reached a career-defining milestone after winning the Best Actor award at the Academy Awards for his performance in the film Sinners.

The 39-year-old actor appeared visibly stunned as he accepted the prestigious honour during the 98th Oscars ceremony in Hollywood, defeating major contenders including Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

His win marks a historic achievement, making him the seventh Black actor to secure the Best Actor Oscar.

Jordan’s success comes after more than two decades in the entertainment industry.

He first gained widespread recognition for his role as Oscar Grant in Fruitvale Station (2013), directed by longtime collaborator Ryan Coogler.

Critics praised his performance, with many comparing his early promise to a young Denzel Washington.

Over the years, Jordan and Coogler have built one of Hollywood’s most successful creative partnerships.

Their collaborations include the boxing drama Creed and the Marvel blockbuster Black Panther, where Jordan played the memorable antagonist Erik Killmonger.

Their latest project, Sinners, pushed Jordan further than any previous role.

In the film, Jordan takes on the challenging task of portraying twin brothers Smoke and Stack, characters returning to Mississippi after working for gangster Al Capone in Chicago.

As they attempt to build a new life by opening a juke joint, the brothers find themselves battling supernatural forces.

The horror-drama broke records with 16 Oscar nominations, the highest ever received by a single film.

During his acceptance speech, Jordan paid tribute to pioneers who paved the way for Black performers in Hollywood, including Sidney Poitier, Washington and Halle Berry.

Beyond acting, Jordan has expanded into directing and producing through his production company, Outlier Society.

The company is currently developing a television adaptation of Fourth Wing, the bestselling fantasy novel by Rebecca Yarros, which centres on a young woman training to become an elite dragon rider.

Jordan has also invested in English football club AFC Bournemouth, joining a minority ownership group in 2022.

As his influence grows across film, television and business, the Oscar win further cements his status as one of Hollywood’s most influential modern actors.
