National News – The Coalition of Justice Advocates, in partnership with Olori Ebi Platform Worldwide, has urged the Nigeria Police Force to investigate alleged cyberbullying targeting its members following the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The groups claim a Germany-based TikToker, identified as Comfy, has been harassing members online by posting manipulated images, spreading defamatory content, and circulating unverified claims.
The coalition emphasized that their campaign for justice was lawful, aimed at supporting Mohbad’s legacy, and fostering public accountability.
Speaking at a Lagos press briefing, Mr Kayode Adebiyi, representing the coalition, said the harassment began in September 2023 and included digitally altered images of members in coffins, online threats, and targeting of minors.
Members allege the TikToker’s actions caused emotional distress, reputational damage, and real-world panic among families.
Mrs Funmilola Alade, one affected member, recounted receiving calls questioning her well-being after her image was posted with “RIP” captions.
Similarly, Mr Sumola Onile reported threats and intimidation linked to his social media presence, while Mr Owonikoko Jamiu said his elderly mother was also targeted online.
The coalition’s legal counsel, Mr Emmanuel Oroko, confirmed that petitions had been filed with the office of the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant authorities, including the German Embassy, requesting international cooperation.
Alleged violations include the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, defamation provisions under Nigerian law, the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, and the Child Rights Act.
The coalition seeks a thorough investigation by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and urges Interpol and German authorities to assist in preserving digital evidence and holding the perpetrator accountable.
The groups reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing justice for Mohbad while safeguarding their members from ongoing online harassment, emphasizing that cyberbullying and unlawful data use cannot go unchecked.
