National News – Vehicular movement has been halted after the collapse of the Moro Bridge along the Ilorin–Igbeti Federal Highway in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Thursday when a heavy-duty truck reportedly passed over the aging structure, causing it to cave in.

This key transport link connects parts of Kwara to Oyo State and serves commuters, traders, and logistics operators moving goods across the region.

Motorists, residents, and business owners expressed frustration over the disruption, noting that the collapse has delayed travel, increased transport fares, and slowed commercial activities.

A trader identified as Kafayat said the situation has raised operational costs and caused significant inconvenience for daily commuters and businesses relying on the route.

The Kwara State Government, through the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, confirmed the incident and announced immediate traffic diversion measures.

According to the government, engineers have been deployed to assess the damage and begin palliative repairs on alternative routes to ease congestion and restore movement.

Traffic officials have also been directed to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure safety along diversion paths.

Authorities explained that the collapsed bridge was a colonial-era Bailey structure that had undergone several repairs due to structural weaknesses.

They added that construction of a new bridge is already ongoing near the site, with federal authorities providing assurances of its completion to prevent future disruptions.

The government urged motorists to remain patient and cautious while using alternative routes as emergency interventions continue.

The incident highlights concerns over aging infrastructure and the urgent need for durable road and bridge systems to support economic activities in the region.
