National News – The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has issued a strong warning to politicians to avoid hate speech, violence, and misinformation during political activities ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

The warning was delivered on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, by the State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, in Lafia, the state capital, after a high-level security meeting with heads of security agencies.

He stated that anyone found disturbing public peace would be arrested and prosecuted.

Security analysts and residents in Nasarawa have described the warning as timely noting rising political tension as parties begin early mobilisation for 202728 elections.

The police emphasised that political ambition must not outweigh human life or community stability stressing that leaders will be held responsible for supporters actions.

The command also urged parties to obtain approvals for rallies and respect citizens rights to peaceful assembly.

The development comes amid increased political activities across Nigeria where security agencies have repeatedly warned against inflammatory rhetoric thuggery and the use of youths for violence.

According to the Commissioner the command is fully prepared to ensure a level playing ground for all parties regardless of political affiliation.

He reiterated that law enforcement agencies will not tolerate any individual or group found instigating unrest sponsoring violence or disrupting electoral processes.

In local reactions some community leaders in Lafia welcomed the stance saying it could reduce fear and intimidation during campaigns, while others urged security agencies to apply the law fairly without bias.

Analysts believe the early warning may help reduce electoral violence if strictly enforced but caution that sustained civic education and political accountability will be necessary to maintain peace.

Youth groups were also advised to resist being used as political tools with emphasis on long term consequences of violence for personal and community development.

Overall stakeholders agree that the success of peaceful elections in Nasarawa will depend on cooperation between security agencies political actors and citizens.

Observers say sustained monitoring will be key as campaigns intensify in the coming months across the state.
