Navy Arrests Personnel Over Bayelsa Clash During Tinubu’s Visit

National News – The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of some of its personnel involved in a violent confrontation with soldiers during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Bayelsa State.

The incident, which occurred during the President’s departure from an official event, has prompted disciplinary action against the officers involved.

The confrontation, captured in a 53-second video that circulated widely on social media, shows a heated exchange between uniformed personnel before escalating into a physical fight.

According to reports, the altercation began when the driver of a Hilux vehicle marked “Naval Police” became involved in a dispute with another driver.

The situation intensified after a soldier armed with a rifle struck the Naval Police driver, leading to a broader clash between personnel from both services.

In a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abi Folorunso, confirmed that the affected personnel are currently in custody and facing disciplinary action.

He stated that the Nigerian Navy is handling the matter in accordance with established military regulations and assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities have emphasized that appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures will be taken to ensure accountability.

The Nigerian Navy reiterated its commitment to maintaining professionalism and discipline among its personnel while cooperating fully with relevant military authorities as investigations continue.
