National News – Ahmed Aliyu has declared that governors in Nigeria’s North-West will not negotiate with bandits, insisting that only unconditional surrender will be accepted.
He made this known on Saturday in Katsina during the commissioning of the Yandaki–Shinkafi–Kofar Sauri Road project executed by Dikko Umaru Radda.
Aliyu stressed that the decision reflects a unified stance among North-West governors determined to end persistent insecurity in the region.
He explained that state governments are investing heavily in security operations and strengthening collaboration with law enforcement agencies to combat banditry effectively.
According to him, negotiating with criminal groups would undermine ongoing efforts to restore peace.
The governor further called on residents across the region to support security initiatives by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements.
He noted that many successful attacks by bandits are often aided by informants within local communities, urging citizens to take responsibility for protecting their environment.
Aliyu also highlighted the importance of community-based security structures, praising the establishment of the Katsina State Community Guard.
He revealed that after observing its launch, he introduced a similar Community Guard Corps in Sokoto State to complement conventional security forces.
He described such initiatives as practical steps toward achieving lasting security.
Reaffirming the commitment of North-West leaders, Aliyu urged continued prayers and cooperation from citizens, stating that collective action remains key to overcoming insecurity.
The governors, he said, are aligned in strategy and focused on achieving measurable results in the fight against banditry across the region.
