National News – Nigerian comedian Okey Bakassi has announced a ₦5 million reward for anyone who can help recover phones stolen during a private football match in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The incident happened on Wednesday evening when an unidentified man joined the weekly football session, allegedly stole about eight mobile phones, and fled the venue.

Bakassi revealed the incident on Instagram on Thursday, explaining that the suspect was welcomed to play out of goodwill before pretending to be injured and leaving the pitch unnoticed.

According to Bakassi, the suspect took advantage of the players’ focus on the football match to steal several valuable phones belonging to businessmen at the gathering.

He explained that the stolen phones are essential for the owners’ daily business activities, making the incident especially damaging.

The matter has since been reported to the police, while private efforts are underway to track the stolen devices and identify the suspect.

Bakassi publicly warned the alleged thief to return the phones within 24 hours by dropping them at the security post where they were taken.

He also urged members of the public with phone-tracking expertise to contact him directly, promising a ₦5 million cash reward for any useful lead.

The comedian further advised buyers of fairly used phones to verify sellers’ identities before making purchases, warning that stolen devices may be sold at suspiciously cheap prices.

The incident has generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the security breach at what was believed to be a controlled private event.

The development highlights rising concerns over theft and the importance of improved security measures, even in exclusive recreational gatherings.
