National News – Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye delivered a career-best performance as Udinese defeated AC Milan 3–0 at the San Siro, securing his third consecutive clean sheet in the Serie A.
The match, played on Saturday, highlighted the 26-year-old’s rising form as he helped his club record a vital win in Italy’s top flight.
Okoye stood firm against sustained pressure from AC Milan, who attempted 20 shots but registered only three on target.
His crucial interventions included two key saves to deny Luka Modrić, preventing what could have been momentum-changing goals.
The result marked Okoye’s third straight clean sheet after shutting out Genoa and Como, a first in his Serie A career.
The run follows his return from a thigh injury that briefly halted his season and underlines his growing consistency at club level.
So far this campaign, Okoye has made 24 league appearances, conceding 26 goals while keeping eight clean sheets.
With 67 saves and a 72 per cent save rate, he has prevented approximately 4.5 expected goals beyond statistical expectation.
He has also shown composure under pressure, conceding just two errors leading to goals while making 19 high claims and acting as a sweeper six times.
In build-up play, he has completed 472 passes, including 166 long balls, helping Udinese transition from defence to attack.
The performance strengthens Okoye’s position as Nigeria’s first-choice goalkeeper, with increasing competition from Arthur Okonkwo and Stanley Nwabali.
His latest showing in one of Europe’s top leagues signals a significant step forward for both club and country.
