National News – Wole Olanipekun, Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology (BOUESTI), has called on stakeholders to support and partner with the institution to accelerate its growth and transformation.
He made the appeal on Saturday in Ikere Ekiti during the university’s second convocation ceremony, where 1,645 students graduated across various disciplines.
Speaking at the event, Olanipekun emphasised that education thrives on collaboration between government, private sector players, communities, and individuals.
He urged stakeholders to contribute resources and expertise to help the institution not only survive but expand its academic and infrastructural capacity.
According to him, such partnerships would secure a lasting legacy for future generations.
The convocation saw 60 students graduate with first-class honours, 563 with second-class upper division, 854 with second-class lower division, and 163 with third-class degrees.
Outstanding students were also recognised for academic excellence.
Olanipekun congratulated the graduates, describing their degrees as symbols of trust and responsibility to apply their knowledge for societal development.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Dipo Aina, noted that the university is transitioning from its foundational stage to consolidation and expansion.
While acknowledging progress in governance, academics, and infrastructure, he highlighted funding and capacity challenges as areas requiring urgent attention and collaboration.
Vice-Chancellor Babatunde Omojola said the institution remains one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing state universities but faces pressure from rising student population, especially in hostel accommodation.
He appealed for government intervention to improve student welfare and learning conditions.
Representing Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Secretary to the State Government, Habibat Adubiaro, reaffirmed continued support for the university.
She encouraged graduates to become innovators, job creators, and solution providers contributing to national development.
