National News – Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress following his defeat in the Delta Central senatorial primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former lawmaker announced his exit in a statement issued on May 22, 2026, through his media adviser, Sunday Areh, in Warri, Delta State.
Omo-Agege, who represented Delta Central in the Senate and served as Deputy Senate President between 2019 and 2023, confirmed that he had formally submitted his resignation letter to the APC chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
He stated that his resignation took immediate effect.
According to the former senator, recent political developments within the APC in Delta State pushed him to leave the ruling party after consultations with his political associates and supporters.
He explained that remaining in the APC would no longer allow him to effectively pursue the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria.
“I will not remain in a political party where I cannot advance the interests of my people,” Omo-Agege stated while expressing appreciation to the APC for giving him the platform to serve at the national level.
The former governorship candidate also requested that his name be removed from all party membership records, registers, and communication platforms.
Despite leaving the APC, he maintained that his commitment to the development of Delta Central and Nigeria remains unchanged.
Political observers believe the resignation could trigger fresh alignments within Delta State politics ahead of the 2027 elections, especially as Omo-Agege remains one of the most influential political figures in the South-South region.
However, the former senator has yet to announce the political party he intends to join after leaving the APC.
