National News – Four aspirants contesting the House of Representatives seat for Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress have rejected an alleged plan to impose a consensus candidate ahead of the party’s primaries.

The aspirants — Jibayo Adeyeye, Ade Adeniyi, Bola Fisayo, and Michael Ajilo — raised the concern in a communiqué issued after a meeting held on Thursday.

They warned that any attempt to enforce consensus without due process could undermine internal democracy within the party.

The politicians stated that they had all obtained their Expression of Interest and Nomination forms and were fully prepared to participate in a direct primary election.

According to them, their decision to speak out was driven by concerns from constituents demanding credible representation at the National Assembly.

They insisted that a transparent, fair, and competitive process remains the best way to select the party’s flagbearer for the constituency.

The aspirants also disclosed that while they opposed any imposed consensus, they were open to internal discussions among themselves and might reach a mutual agreement if it reflects fairness and collective interest.

They reassured party members and supporters that their ambition is rooted in delivering effective representation and aligning with the aspirations of the people in Ondo State.

However, the state leadership of the All Progressives Congress has denied the allegations.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Steve Otaloro, described the claims as premature and unfounded, noting that the primary election process is still ongoing and no decision has been made regarding consensus arrangements.

He explained that party leaders, including the state governor, have been engaging stakeholders across the three senatorial districts to gather opinions ahead of the primaries.

According to him, such consultations demonstrate a commitment to transparency rather than any plan to impose a candidate.

Meanwhile, tensions have reportedly escalated, with some party members staging protests in Odigbo Local Government Area over fears of imposition.

Party leaders have assured members that all disputes will be resolved through due process, emphasizing fairness, inclusiveness, and adherence to democratic principles.
