National News – Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended its senatorial aspirant, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, over a leaked video circulating online in which he was accused of downplaying the party’s ability to defeat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the next governorship election in Osun State.

The controversy erupted after clips surfaced suggesting Ogunbiyi said President Bola Tinubu made political overtures to Adeleke to join the APC.

The party insists the video was distorted and weaponised by opposition actors, particularly the Accord Party, to mislead the public.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Osogbo, the APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, clarified that Dr Ogunbiyi remains a loyal and credible chieftain of the party in Osun West Senatorial District.

According to the party, the video was selectively edited, removing sections where Ogunbiyi reaffirmed support for APC governorship candidate Bola Oyebamiji and the party’s plan to unseat Governor Adeleke.

The APC alleged that political rivals are spreading the clip to create internal division ahead of the 2026 Osun political cycle.

The party maintained that Ogunbiyi, an insurance expert and senatorial aspirant, has consistently worked for party cohesion and openly praised the APC governorship standard bearer.

It urged members of the public to disregard the viral clip and focus on verified statements.

The party reaffirmed commitment to winning the Osun governorship race and maintaining internal unity despite misinformation campaigns.
