National News – The All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries in Osun State produced major upsets on Tuesday as incumbent lawmaker, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, lost his re-election bid for the Osun Central ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise also saw Senator Francis Fadahunsi emerge as the APC candidate for Osun East after a landslide victory.
The primaries were conducted across the state under the supervision of party officials, while party leaders later called for unity among members.
Fadeyi, who currently represents Osun Central in the Senate, was defeated by legal practitioner Adekunle Adegoke (SAN).
According to results announced by the chairman of the APC primary election committee, Mr Bayo Ayo, Adegoke secured 26,655 votes while Fadeyi polled 13,138 votes.
Other contenders in the Osun Central race included Yomi Ogunwale, who scored 2,925 votes, Akintunde Adegboye with 342 votes, and Olu Fakeye, who received 67 votes.
In Osun East, Senator Francis Fadahunsi won the APC ticket with 23,593 votes to defeat his rivals, Famurewa Israel and Thomas Ogungbangbe, who polled 472 and 806 votes respectively.
Fadahunsi, who was first elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2019 and re-elected in 2023, defected to the APC in 2025 alongside four other lawmakers.
Meanwhile, businessman and insurance expert Dr Akin Ogunbiyi clinched the APC senatorial ticket for Osun West after polling 30,568 votes.
His closest rival, Gafar Akintayo, secured 1,215 votes, while Peter Ogundeji, who earlier withdrew from the race, got 14 votes.
Reacting to the outcome, the Osun APC leadership praised the peaceful conduct of the primaries and urged aggrieved aspirants to seek redress through constitutional channels.
The party also appealed to supporters to avoid inflammatory statements capable of causing division ahead of the 2027 elections.
