National News – A civil society organisation, The Osun Masterminds, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to urgently address worsening economic hardship affecting citizens.

The appeal was made on Tuesday in Osogbo during the group’s monthly media briefing, where concerns over declining living standards dominated discussions.

Speaking on behalf of the organisation, Executive Director Wasiu Oyedokun-Alli said that despite government claims of macroeconomic improvements, everyday Nigerians are experiencing deeper financial strain.

He highlighted rising food prices, high fuel costs, and persistent insecurity as key drivers of hardship.

According to him, the situation has reached a critical point, with many households struggling to afford basic needs.

He noted that insecurity in farming regions continues to disrupt food supply chains, worsening inflation and limiting access to affordable food across the country.

Local reactions in Osun reflect similar frustrations.

Residents who spoke with journalists described a steady decline in purchasing power, with transport fares and staple food prices rising beyond the reach of average earners.

Some traders also lamented reduced patronage, blaming shrinking disposable incomes.

The group further criticised what it described as a disconnect between official economic data and the lived realities of citizens.

It urged the Federal Government to prioritise policies that directly impact people, including reducing fuel costs and tackling insecurity more effectively.

Beyond national concerns, the organisation also advised the Osun State Government to adopt more people-focused governance strategies rather than functioning primarily as a procurement-driven system.

It stressed the need for practical solutions that improve livelihoods at the grassroots level.

On politics, the group warned against escalating tensions ahead of the state’s governorship election, calling for peaceful campaigns and respect for democratic processes.

The development underscores growing pressure on authorities to respond to economic challenges, as analysts warn that prolonged hardship could deepen social unrest and weaken public trust in governance if not urgently addressed.
