National News – Strong indications have emerged that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is preparing to unveil former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his preferred governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Reports from political circles in Lagos and Oyo suggest the governor may also shift his political structure away from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Action Democratic Party (ADP) or another emerging platform.

Sources say the official announcement could come within 48 hours or by Sunday. However, there are conflicting views among insiders about the final party choice.

Adekanmbi, a former commissioner under the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, is said to have already met key stakeholders across the state.

These include lawmakers, local government chairmen, elders, and political influencers who are part of ongoing consultations.

His political profile rose in 2024 after he chaired the committee for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan.

He joined the PDP in December 2025 and declared his governorship ambition in April 2026 after wide consultations.

Party sources say discussions are ongoing amid tensions over zoning arrangements and internal disagreements within the PDP.

Some stakeholders insist on a Muslim succession arrangement, while others argue that Makinde has not publicly confirmed any zoning agreement.

The PDP in Oyo is also facing uncertainty following a Supreme Court ruling that nullified its 2025 national convention, deepening internal divisions.

Party officials have said the governor is expected to announce his decision soon, but no confirmation has been made regarding either the candidate or platform.

Analysts believe the move could significantly reshape the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
