National News – Security has been significantly strengthened across Anambra State as preparations intensify for the second-term inauguration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed that it has deployed additional personnel and reinforced security operations to ensure a peaceful swearing-in ceremony scheduled to take place in Awka.

The inauguration ceremony for Governor Soludo and his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, is expected to hold on Tuesday at the Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

The event will formally mark the commencement of the governor’s second term in office and is anticipated to attract dignitaries, political leaders, stakeholders, and residents from across the state and beyond.

Ahead of the ceremony, the state government has planned an interdenominational thanksgiving service to hold on March 15, 2026, at the International Convention Centre in Awka.

The service is designed to usher in the inauguration activities and provide an opportunity for prayers for the state’s leadership and continued development.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, the police disclosed that security operations have been intensified in collaboration with other security agencies to guarantee the safety of residents and guests attending the event.

Ikenga revealed that the command recently received 100 officers who completed specialised armed and combat training at the Police College in Oji River.

According to him, the newly trained personnel will complement officers already deployed to strategic locations across the state.

He explained that patrol operations, surveillance, and intelligence gathering have also been strengthened to maintain law and order before, during, and after the inauguration ceremony.

The police command said the security measures are aimed at preventing disruptions and ensuring a hitch-free programme.

The police spokesperson further urged residents, visitors, and stakeholders expected to attend the ceremony to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security personnel throughout the inauguration period.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property while ensuring that the inauguration of the Anambra State government takes place in a peaceful and secure atmosphere.
