National News – The Sokoto State Government, led by Ahmed Aliyu, has approved multiple contracts covering education, healthcare, transport, security, and religious infrastructure.

The decisions were made on Thursday during the State Executive Council’s first meeting of 2026 in Sokoto.

The approvals aim to improve public services, expand infrastructure, and address pressing community needs across the state.

Officials disclosed that the projects will be executed within set timelines without cost variations, ensuring accountability and efficiency.

In the education sector, ₦336.6 million was approved for renovating staff quarters and the Vice-Chancellor’s residence at Sokoto State University.

Additionally, over ₦956 million will fund the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School Trike and establish a centre for out-of-school children, addressing gaps in access to quality education.

Authorities say these investments will strengthen the academic environment and reduce the number of out-of-school youths.

Healthcare also received a boost, with ₦179.3 million earmarked to upgrade the clinic at the State College of Basic and Remedial Studies into a primary healthcare centre.

Another ₦221.9 million was approved to complete the long-abandoned Wamakko General Hospital project, which is expected to expand access to medical services and improve health outcomes for residents.

In transport, ₦78.34 million will be used to rehabilitate facilities belonging to the Sokoto State Transport Authority, ensuring improved mobility and sustainability of public transit systems.

For security and agriculture, ₦141.97 million was approved to construct security outposts and a mechanical workshop in Gwadabawa, aimed at protecting lives and supporting farming activities.

The council also approved ₦144.6 million for constructing a central Jumaat mosque in Shuni and completing another mosque at the NSCDC headquarters, promoting religious harmony and community development.
