National News – Obafemi Hamzat has confirmed that Bola Ahmed Tinubu has endorsed his ambition to contest the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

Hamzat disclosed this on Wednesday after a high-level meeting held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) of the All Progressives Congress.

The endorsement came after the GAC, led by chairman Tajudeen Olusi, formally presented Hamzat to the President.

According to him, the council unanimously backed his candidacy and sought Tinubu’s blessing, which was granted.

The meeting followed a series of political endorsements within 72 hours, including public support from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Explaining why he is confident about the race, Hamzat said his experience as deputy governor since 2019 has equipped him with the knowledge required to lead Lagos State effectively.

He described the governorship role as demanding but expressed readiness, noting that his familiarity with governance structures gives him an advantage.

The GAC also resolved to purchase the N50 million nomination form for Hamzat, signaling strong institutional backing within the party.

However, Olusi clarified that despite the endorsement, the APC would still conduct primaries in line with democratic procedures, allowing other aspirants to participate.

The development highlights growing political alignment within Lagos APC ahead of the 2027 elections.

Analysts say early endorsements and elite consensus could shape the party’s internal dynamics and influence the eventual candidate selection process.

Hamzat, who previously served as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure under former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, remains one of the leading contenders for the state’s top seat.
