National News – President Bola Tinubu has directed the distribution of rice across Nigeria to support citizens observing the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent.

The initiative is being coordinated through the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a political support group aligned with the President, as part of efforts to ease the burden on families during the religious fasting period.

The directive was disclosed by the Director-General of the group and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, who explained that the intervention is designed to promote compassion and strengthen unity among Nigerians during a time that holds deep spiritual meaning for both Muslims and Christians.

Uzodinma noted that Ramadan and Lent are periods that emphasise sacrifice, charity, and kindness, adding that the rice distribution programme reflects the administration’s commitment to supporting citizens during significant religious observances.

According to him, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will coordinate the distribution exercise through their grassroots network across the country to ensure the food items reach communities in need.

The initiative aims to provide relief to households during the fasting season, when many families face increased food demands while also participating in religious acts of charity and reflection.

He further stated that the programme underscores the government’s effort to encourage solidarity among Nigerians of different faiths, reinforcing a sense of togetherness during both Ramadan and Lent.

The group explained that its nationwide structure will enable effective delivery of the rice to both Muslim and Christian communities across various states, ensuring that the benefits reach as many families as possible.

This is not the first time such a distribution programme has been organised.

A similar intervention was carried out during the Christmas season, when rice was shared with citizens as part of efforts to support Nigerians during festive celebrations.

Observers say the current initiative highlights the administration’s focus on social support programmes tied to key religious and cultural periods, while also promoting national unity among diverse communities.

As Ramadan and Lent continue, the rice distribution is expected to reach thousands of households across the country, providing assistance to families observing the fasting seasons.
