National News – British police have charged a 45-year-old man, Essa Suleiman, over the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London, an attack that has heightened fears within the Jewish community and prompted stronger security measures across the United Kingdom.
The incident happened in Golders Green, a London district with a large Jewish population, on Wednesday in broad daylight.
Authorities said the Metropolitan Police charged Suleiman with three counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Police said one of the attempted murder charges relates to a separate altercation at a flat in south London earlier the same day.
The suspect, a British national originally from Somalia, is scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
The attack left two victims, aged 76 and 34, with stab wounds.
Emergency responders treated both men at the scene before taking them to hospital.
The younger victim has since been discharged, while the older man remains in stable condition receiving treatment.
Counter Terrorism Policing is leading the investigation after authorities classified the stabbing as a terrorist incident.
Investigators say the case is being handled with urgency to establish motive, gather evidence, and ensure justice for the victims.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded by condemning antisemitism and promising enhanced security for Jewish institutions across Britain.
The UK government has raised the national terrorism threat level to “severe,” indicating another attack is highly likely within the next six months.
Officials also announced an additional £25 million security fund for synagogues, Jewish schools, community centres, and places of worship.
The decision follows a series of attacks targeting Jewish sites in recent months.
Police Commissioner Mark Rowley warned that Britain is witnessing a rise in antisemitic incidents, stressing the need for broader societal action to tackle hate-fuelled violence.
The case has intensified national debate over public safety, religious tolerance, and anti-hate policies.
