National News – A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has rejected claims that Senator Samuel Anyanwu was ever suspended, describing reports surrounding his appeal as misleading and inaccurate.
The clarification was issued on Saturday through a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, under the leadership of Abdurahman Mohammed.
The controversy centres on who initiated the claim, what the appeal entails, when and where the legal action occurred, why it was filed, and how it has been interpreted.
According to the party, Anyanwu’s appeal, filed on April 10, 2026, at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, challenged a January 12 ruling of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, not any suspension.
The court had dismissed his earlier suit and addressed internal party issues rather than disciplinary sanctions.
Explaining further, the PDP stated that although a disciplinary panel chaired by Tom Ikimi once recommended a suspension, the proposal was never adopted by the National Working Committee or National Executive Committee.
As a result, the recommendation held no legal or binding effect, meaning no suspension ever existed at any time.
The party also highlighted that the disciplinary committee itself was later nullified after it was found to have been constituted خلاف party constitutional provisions.
This development, according to the statement, rendered all its actions invalid.
Meanwhile, the PDP continues to grapple with internal divisions, with rival factions pursuing separate legal actions to assert control.
While one camp has sought electoral recognition through the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Wike-backed group insists that its leadership and recent national convention were conducted in line with valid court judgments.
The party urged members and the public to disregard what it described as distorted narratives intended to create confusion, reaffirming that Anyanwu’s appeal was unrelated to any suspension and has now been withdrawn.
