National News – Former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State, Dr Ali Tikau, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a significant political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.
The announcement was made on Monday during a well-attended ceremony held in Tikau town, located in Nangere Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The event drew a large crowd of political associates, community leaders, supporters and party members who gathered to witness the formal transition.
As part of the defection process, Tikau symbolically handed over his PDP membership card to ward executives, signalling the end of his long-standing affiliation with the opposition party.
The card was received by the Chairman of the PDP Tikau Ward, Samaila Jalamawa, alongside the ward secretary and other party officials present at the event.
Shortly afterwards, representatives of the African Democratic Congress formally welcomed the former PDP chieftain into their fold.
Representing the ADC state leadership, Babangida Dagare presented Tikau with the party’s membership card, officially confirming his entry into the party.
Several ward officials also attended the ceremony, including the Youth Leader, Ali Garba Tikau, the Organising Secretary, Salisu Ibrahim, and Adamu Hassan.
Dr Tikau is a prominent political figure in Yobe State and previously served as the Executive Secretary of the National Primary Education Commission (NPEC).
Over the years, he has remained active in Yobe politics and contested the governorship election under the PDP platform in both the 2011 and 2023 elections.
Speaking to journalists shortly after the ceremony, Tikau explained that his decision to leave the PDP followed extensive consultations with supporters, political allies and community stakeholders.
According to him, the move is aimed at exploring new political opportunities that will promote development and better representation for people in his constituency and across Yobe State.
Tikau also pledged to strengthen the ADC’s structure in the state and mobilise grassroots support for the party ahead of future elections, particularly the 2027 general polls.
He further called on his supporters to remain united and committed to the party’s vision, expressing confidence that the African Democratic Congress would provide a stronger platform to advance the aspirations and welfare of the people.
