National News – Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, presented a list of 18 commissioner-nominees to the Anambra State House of Assembly in Awka for screening and confirmation.
The move is aimed at strengthening governance and ensuring effective delivery of his administration’s second-term agenda.
The Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, officially received the list during plenary and immediately referred it to the House Committee on Screening and Election Matters.
The nominees are expected to undergo rigorous legislative screening before final confirmation.
The list cuts across key ministries including agriculture, education, health, finance, justice, environment, works, transport, and youth development.
According to the government, the selection reflects a blend of continuity and new expertise, with some returning commissioners retained from the governor’s first term.
The 18 nominees include professionals and political figures such as Ben Odoemena (Agriculture), Chukwukadibia Okoye (Budget and Economic Planning), Afam Obidike (Health), Law Mefor (Information and Value Reformation), Tobechukwu Nweke (Justice/Attorney-General), and others across strategic sectors.
The list also features experts in power, petroleum, transport, works, and social development, reflecting a broad governance structure.
The House Speaker directed the committee to commence screening in line with constitutional procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
If confirmed, the commissioners will be responsible for implementing state policies, driving economic development, and improving public services in Anambra State.
The exercise underscores Soludo’s administrative strategy to build a performance-driven cabinet that aligns with his vision for economic transformation and good governance.
