National News – Aspirants contesting for seats in the House of Representatives under the Nigeria Democratic Congress have declared that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would face strong accountability if elected President in 2027 and failed to meet Nigerians’ expectations.
The aspirants made the statement during a press conference held in Abuja in collaboration with the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy.
The politicians spoke days after Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso officially joined the NDC as part of ongoing opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants also backed talks of an Obi-Kwankwaso presidential alliance, describing it as a major political force capable of reshaping Nigeria’s future.
Nnamdi Iroegbu, an NDC House of Representatives aspirant for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala Federal Constituency in Imo State, said every government must remain accountable to citizens regardless of party affiliation.
According to him, Nigerians would not hesitate to remove any administration that failed to deliver good governance, transparency and economic progress.
Kingsley Ndube, another aspirant representing Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency, stated that incoming lawmakers on the NDC platform would focus on service to Nigerians rather than personal gain.
He stressed that many aspirants joined politics out of patriotism and a desire to rebuild public trust in governance.
The event also featured remarks from Gambari Ismaila, an aspirant for Bwari Constituency in the Federal Capital Territory, who praised former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson for creating the NDC platform.
He described the party as a movement built on justice, accountability and national unity.
COPDEM National Youth Leader Akor Oche described the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso alliance as a bridge between the North and South.
He urged Nigerians to reject ethnic and religious divisions and support a coalition focused on reforms, security and economic development.
Obi and Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC in Abuja on Sunday and called for unity within the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
