National News – Celtic FC staged a stunning late comeback to defeat Heart of Midlothian F.C. 3-1 on Saturday and secure the Scottish Premiership title in dramatic fashion at Celtic Park, Glasgow.
The victory handed Celtic their 14th league crown in 15 years after overturning a first-half deficit in the final minutes of the season.
Hearts, managed by Derek McInnes, needed only to avoid defeat to win their first Scottish league title in 66 years.
The visitors shocked the packed home crowd in the 43rd minute when striker Lawrence Shankland headed in from a corner to put Hearts ahead.
Celtic responded just before halftime after a handball inside the penalty area gifted the hosts a spot-kick.
Midfielder Arne Engels calmly converted the penalty to level the match 1-1 and keep Celtic’s title hopes alive heading into the tense second half.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 87th minute when Japanese forward Daizen Maeda bundled the ball into the net.
Although the assistant referee initially ruled the goal offside, a VAR review overturned the decision and confirmed the goal, sparking wild celebrations among Celtic supporters.
Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho played a key role after coming on as a substitute, helping Celtic increase attacking pressure late in the match.
Moments later, Callum Osmand sealed the victory with the final kick of the game after Hearts goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
The result extended Celtic’s dominance in Scottish football and denied Hearts a historic triumph despite leading for most of the contest.
