National News – Former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu has celebrated Arsenal’s return to the summit of English football after the club secured the 2025/26 English Premier League title, ending a 22-year wait for the trophy.
The title was confirmed on Tuesday night after Manchester City played a 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth, leaving Arsenal uncatchable at the top of the table.
Arsenal, managed by Mikel Arteta, had gone into the week with a slim two-point advantage over Manchester City.
The London club’s consistent performances throughout the season helped them maintain their lead, while City’s dropped points officially handed the Gunners their first Premier League title since the famous unbeaten “Invincibles” campaign of 2003/04.
Kanu, who was part of that legendary Arsenal squad under former manager Arsène Wenger, joined millions of fans worldwide in celebrating the achievement.
Sharing his excitement on social media, the former Nigerian striker praised the team’s determination and resilience, describing the title victory as fully deserved after years of rebuilding and near misses.
The Nigerian football icon played a significant role during his years at Arsenal between 1999 and 2004.
During his stay at Highbury, he made 197 appearances, scored 44 goals, and contributed 38 assists.
Kanu also won two Premier League titles and two FA Cups with the club before moving on to West Bromwich Albion and later Portsmouth.
Beyond Arsenal, Kanu enjoyed one of the most successful careers in African football history.
He won major trophies with Ajax, Inter Milan, and Portsmouth, while also helping Nigeria win the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 1993 and Olympic gold in 1996.
His reaction to Arsenal’s latest success has once again highlighted his lasting connection with the North London club and its supporters.
