National News – Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has praised the All Progressives Congress for conducting what he described as a peaceful, transparent, and credible governorship primary election in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The exercise, held across the state’s 270 wards on Thursday, saw Oborevwori emerge as the APC governorship candidate after securing 345,375 votes as the sole aspirant in the direct primary.

Speaking after casting his vote in Okpe Local Government Area, the governor commended party leaders and members for maintaining order throughout the process.

He stated that the high turnout of party faithful reflected growing confidence in his administration and demonstrated strong grassroots support for the APC in Delta State.

Oborevwori said the peaceful conduct of the primary marked a major shift from past political contests in the state, which were often associated with tension and violence.

According to him, adherence to due process and allowing members to freely choose candidates helped ensure a smooth exercise without reports of crisis or loss of lives.

The Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Victor Abba, officially declared Oborevwori winner of the primary during the collation of results in Asaba.

He noted that the governor satisfied all constitutional requirements of the party and secured the highest number of valid votes cast.

Several APC leaders and stakeholders, including former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, praised the orderly process and expressed confidence that the governor’s leadership and performance in office would strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 governorship election.

Party officials also credited Oborevwori’s infrastructural projects, governance reforms, and people-focused programmes for boosting APC’s popularity across the state.

The declaration was witnessed by senior party members, government officials, and supporters who gathered at the party secretariat in Asaba.
