National News – Afam Ogene has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 House of Representatives election in Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra State.
The decision was reached during the party’s National Assembly primary election held on Saturday in Atani, the headquarters of Ogbaru Local Government Area.
Ogene, who currently serves as the leader of the NDC caucus in the House of Representatives, was endorsed by party stakeholders and supporters to seek a second term in office.
The lawmaker secured the ticket through a consensus arrangement aimed at strengthening the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking after his emergence, Ogene expressed gratitude to party members for their confidence in his leadership and representation.
He said the endorsement reflected the trust constituents have placed in his commitment to quality representation, integrity, and service to the people of Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
The lawmaker urged party leaders, members, and supporters to begin grassroots mobilisation across communities in the constituency.
According to him, door-to-door voter sensitisation and engagement will be critical in securing victory for the NDC during the 2027 presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly elections.
Ogene stressed that early political mobilisation would help strengthen the party’s support base and improve voter participation.
He called on stakeholders to remain united and focused on delivering electoral success at all levels of the upcoming polls.
Reaffirming his commitment to the people, the federal lawmaker assured residents that he would continue to prioritise their interests and developmental needs.
