National News – Afrobeats star Davido (David Adeleke) has clarified his relationship with Seyi Tinubu and denied belonging to any “City Boys” group.

The clarification followed backlash over his comments on insecurity and injustice in Nigeria posted on X on Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.

The controversy started after social media users questioned his sincerity, suggesting he was too close to political figures.

The claims were linked to his friendship with Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.

Davido responded by stating clearly that he is not part of any political group or “City Boys” chat.

He stressed that his relationship with Seyi Tinubu is personal and has lasted for years.

He added that while he maintains friendships across different circles, it does not stop him from speaking on national issues.

He also recalled previously criticising the Nigerian government in international interviews.

According to him, he has consistently used both public platforms and private conversations to express concerns about Nigeria’s challenges, especially insecurity and governance.

The singer’s response has sparked mixed reactions online. Some Nigerians praised his openness, while others argued that celebrities should avoid political proximity when commenting on national issues.

The incident highlights ongoing debate about celebrity activism in Nigeria. It also reflects growing public scrutiny of entertainers who speak on politics while maintaining ties with political figures.

Davido remains one of Africa’s biggest music stars and continues to play an active role in public discussions on social and political issues.
