National News – The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has urged Nigerian troops to remain resolute in defending the nation’s peace, unity, and sovereignty.

The call came during a special Sallah luncheon organised for soldiers of the Forward Operations Base in Sobe, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, to commemorate the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

Represented at the event by the Commander of the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Balogun, the Army Chief emphasised the importance of dedication, discipline, and resilience among personnel serving in various operational theatres across the country.

He commended soldiers for their courage and sacrifice while operating in challenging environments far away from their families.

According to him, the Nigerian Army remains committed to improving troop welfare and strengthening collaboration with other security agencies.

He noted that strong inter-agency cooperation has continued to enhance operational success and national stability.

Shaibu praised soldiers for their loyalty and professionalism despite the demanding nature of their assignments.

He said their endurance and bravery embody the true spirit of the Nigerian soldier and reflect the armed forces’ commitment to protecting citizens and safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

He also acknowledged the role of other security and intelligence agencies, stressing that collective efforts remain crucial in confronting security threats and maintaining peace across the country.

The Army Chief further expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu, for his consistent support to the military.

He said the President’s leadership and strategic guidance have continued to motivate troops and strengthen the institutional development and operational capacity of the armed forces.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Commander of the Forward Operations Base in Sobe, Lt. Col. Stanley Agboro, described the Sallah luncheon as an annual tradition designed to boost the morale of frontline soldiers.

He explained that similar gatherings are usually organised during major festive periods such as Eid-el-Fitr, Eid-el-Kabir, Easter, and Christmas.

Agboro said the initiative also serves as an opportunity to honour fallen heroes, appreciate the sacrifices of serving personnel, and strengthen the spirit of camaraderie within the military community.

The event featured cultural dance displays, comedy performances, morale-boosting songs by soldiers, and a communal luncheon attended by local leaders and security officials.
