National News – American rapper and performer Megan Thee Stallion was rushed to hospital after suddenly falling ill midway through a live performance of the Broadway musical Moulin Rouge!

The Musical in New York on Tuesday night. The incident occurred at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, where the Grammy-winning artist was making her highly anticipated Broadway debut.

According to her representative, the 31-year-old star began experiencing serious symptoms during the show and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.

The performer, whose real name is Megan Pete, had taken on the role of Harold Zidler, the flamboyant master of ceremonies in the stage production.

The unexpected medical emergency forced organisers to halt her appearance as medical personnel attended to her backstage before she was taken away for treatment.

Her spokesperson later confirmed that doctors were assessing her condition and that further updates would be released once more details about her health become available.

News of the incident quickly spread online after Megan’s hair stylist, Kellon Deryck, shared a message on social media asking fans to pray for the star, revealing that members of her team were gathered at the hospital with her.

Concerned fans flooded social media with supportive messages for the rapper, widely known for chart-topping songs including Savage, WAP and Body.

Megan Thee Stallion had only recently begun her limited Broadway run, which started on 24 March and is scheduled to continue until 17 May.

She previously expressed excitement about stepping away from touring to explore theatre performance, telling fans she was thrilled to join the stage production and connect with audiences in a different way.

The role of Harold Zidler has been played by several notable performers in the musical’s history.

Actor Danny Burstein originated the role in the Broadway production and won a Tony Award in 2020 for his performance.

Earlier this year, drag performer Bob the Drag Queen also portrayed the character during a short run.

As of now, producers have not confirmed whether upcoming performances will be affected while Megan Thee Stallion recovers and doctors determine the cause of her sudden illness.
