National News – Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, and the Olu of Ilaro Kehinde Olugbenle are expected to attend a civic reception organised to honour former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
The event will take place on Saturday at the Yewa Frontier Hotel in Ilaro, Ogun State, celebrating Egbetokun’s service and achievements as Nigeria’s top police officer.
The reception is being organised by the Yewa Peoples Development Council, which said the programme aims to recognise Egbetokun as an “illustrious son of Yewaland.”
According to the council’s chairman, Rahamon Bello, the event will bring together government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, and business leaders from across the country.
Bello explained that the civic reception is meant to show appreciation for Egbetokun’s contributions to policing and national security during his time as the Inspector-General of Police.
He noted that the former police chief made history as the 22nd indigenous IGP of Nigeria and the first person from Ogun State to hold the position.
Egbetokun, who hails from Yewa South Local Government Area in Ogun State, served as Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police from June 20, 2023, until February 24, 2026.
He stepped down from office earlier this year, citing personal family reasons.
The event is expected to attract a wide range of dignitaries, including senior military and police officers, captains of industry, prominent traditional rulers, and political leaders from different parts of the country.
Organisers say the gathering will also celebrate Egbetokun’s impact on law enforcement and public service.
His wife and close associates are also expected to attend the ceremony, which is being described as a moment of pride for the people of Yewaland.
Community leaders say the recognition reflects the region’s appreciation for his leadership, dedication, and commitment to national service.
The organisers added that the reception will serve not only as a celebration of Egbetokun’s achievements but also as an inspiration for younger generations from the region aspiring to serve Nigeria in leadership roles.
