National News – The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, on Tuesday dismissed rumours of a rift between him, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, describing his relationship with both leaders as cordial and respectful.
The monarch addressed the speculation while speaking with journalists at his private residence in Boroboro, Oyo town, assuring the public that there was no misunderstanding between the traditional institution and the state government.
The clarification came amid online rumours suggesting tension among the prominent leaders in Oyo State.
However, Owoade explained that the claims were unfounded and largely fueled by bloggers and online commentators seeking to create controversy where none exists.
According to the monarch, Governor Makinde has maintained a supportive relationship with the palace, and any potential concerns between them would be resolved privately rather than in the public space.
He noted that his recent absence from some official functions was due to health reasons and not because of any disagreement with the state government.
Owoade also addressed speculation surrounding his relationship with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
He stated that both traditional rulers maintain mutual respect and open communication, adding that a recent misunderstanding about a greeting gesture had already been resolved.
The Alaafin explained that the Olubadan later clarified he did not notice the extended greeting during the event in question.
He added that the two monarchs subsequently spoke on the phone and later met again during an iftar gathering at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, reinforcing their cordial relationship.
Beyond addressing the rumours, the Alaafin also highlighted developments in Oyo during his first year on the throne.
He revealed that the palace has established a land dispute resolution committee to address increasing land conflicts within the community, noting that more than 200 cases had already been handled.
The monarch further disclosed that construction of a community health centre valued at about N800 million is ongoing and expected to be commissioned in July.
He also said plans were underway to build a civic centre while renovation works continue at the historic palace to preserve its heritage.
Owoade urged residents to ignore false rumours and support traditional institutions, stressing his commitment to peace, unity, and development in Oyo.
