National News – The Barth Nnaji N14.5 billion property demolition case at the Enugu State High Court has been adjourned until June 3, 2026.

Justice Veronica Ajogwu fixed the new date after lawyers representing both parties requested time to regularise court processes following the filing of defence documents by the defendants.

The lawsuit was filed by 25 members of the Nkomoro Onuogba Community in Enugu State against former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, and Okechukwu Nnaji.

The plaintiffs alleged that their properties were unlawfully demolished during a dispute over ancestral land ownership.

Defence counsel, Benjamin Nwobodo, told journalists after the hearing that the matter was only mentioned in court and no major proceedings took place.

He explained that the defence team had filed its statement of defence alongside a motion seeking an extension of time to complete necessary legal procedures.

Nwobodo argued that the disputed land ownership issue had already been settled by the court in 2013 in favour of one Alinta, whose interest in the property was later transferred to Prof. Nnaji.

According to him, the demolition carried out on the land was part of the lawful enforcement of an existing court judgment and was supervised by security operatives.

The plaintiffs’ lawyer, Peter Igwe, however, said his team was only served the defence documents shortly before the court session began.

He noted that the plaintiffs needed time to review the filings and prepare an appropriate legal response before the matter proceeds further.

Court documents showed that the plaintiffs are demanding compensation for several demolished buildings, alleged looted valuables, and the deaths of seven persons linked to the dispute.

They are also seeking a court declaration recognising them as rightful owners of the disputed ancestral land.
