National News – The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party backed by Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports of an alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said it remains focused on defeating the APC at the polls.
The statement was made on Tuesday in Abuja by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, during an interview where he described the alleged partnership as “mischievous” and politically motivated.
Mohammed explained that the PDP was currently receiving defectors from other political camps and had no reason to align with the APC.
According to him, the party’s ongoing screening and nomination process for the 2027 elections has progressed smoothly, with governorship aspirants from states including Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa, and Bauchi already submitting nomination forms at Wadata Plaza in Abuja.
He added that screening exercises for governorship and presidential aspirants would hold at Legacy House, while some state-level screenings would take place in respective states.
The PDP spokesman expressed optimism that the exercise would strengthen the party ahead of the next election cycle.
Meanwhile, another PDP pressure group known as the PDP Survival Movement defended the leadership structure led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu.
During a press briefing in Abuja, the group’s president, Okoh Bartholomew, argued that no court judgment had removed Anyanwu from office.
Bartholomew also questioned the legality of the caretaker structure headed by Tanimu Turaki, insisting that the Abdulrahman/Anyanwu-led National Working Committee remained the only legally recognised PDP leadership.
The disagreement follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that nullified the party’s Ibadan convention over alleged violations of court orders.
