National News – The recent edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards Cultural Day in Lagos showcased how Africa’s entertainment industry is rapidly evolving through the fusion of film, fashion, music and digital content creation.

The event, held ahead of the annual awards ceremony, gathered actors, fashion designers, musicians, influencers and online creators who used the platform to celebrate African culture while expanding commercial opportunities across the continent’s creative economy.

The event highlighted the growing influence of African storytelling beyond cinema, as creators leveraged social media platforms, live performances and fashion exhibitions to connect with wider audiences.

Contemporary African fashion styles and digital content dominated the occasion, reflecting how younger audiences increasingly consume entertainment through streaming platforms and online engagement.

Organisers explained that the Cultural Day, once viewed mainly as a ceremonial prelude to the awards, has transformed into a major cultural and business platform for brands and creatives seeking visibility and partnerships within Africa’s booming entertainment sector.

The celebration also demonstrated how collaborations among filmmakers, fashion entrepreneurs, musicians and digital influencers are creating new economic opportunities.

One of the major brands present at the event, Diageo, used the occasion to promote its Johnnie Walker AfroExchange initiative, designed to encourage African creativity and cross-cultural collaboration.

According to Ifeoma Agu, Group Head of Culture, Influencers and Advocacy at Diageo South, West and Central Africa, the company remains committed to supporting creatives who continue to shape culture across music, art, fashion, film and digital media.

The event also spotlighted the increasing relevance of digital creators within mainstream entertainment.

Reality TV personality and content creator Elozonam Ogbolu earned recognition through a nomination in the Best Digital Content Creator category, underlining how online influencers are gaining commercial importance in Africa’s entertainment ecosystem.

Industry observers say the growing blend of entertainment sectors is helping African brands attract younger consumers while strengthening the continent’s global cultural influence.
