National News – Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Nigerian Bar Association have demanded urgent reforms to Nigeria’s security system following the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The calls came after coordinated attacks on three schools in the area, where gunmen kidnapped victims during school hours.

The incident occurred penultimate Friday around 9:30 a.m. at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele.

PDP leaders, led by Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara and Interim National Working Committee members under Tanimu Turaki, visited Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan to sympathise with residents over the attacks.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting, Turaki said security remained a critical issue that required immediate attention from the Federal Government.

He praised Makinde’s investment in protecting lives and property but described the latest kidnappings as disturbing, especially ahead of political activities linked to future elections.

Turaki urged Nigerians to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and support security agencies in tackling insecurity.

He also stressed that community participation was necessary to improve intelligence gathering and prevent future attacks.

The Nigerian Bar Association also criticised the worsening security situation and urged both federal and state authorities to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims.

The association called for tighter monitoring of commercial motorcyclists and a review of the influx of unfamiliar persons into the state.

NBA Chairman Ibrahim Lawal said the government’s silence since the incident had created anxiety among residents.

He warned against allowing violent crimes to become normal in peaceful communities and demanded that the attackers and their sponsors be identified and prosecuted.

Residents continue to await updates on rescue operations as concerns grow over the safety of schools and communities across Oyo State.
