National News – Former US President Joe Biden has filed a lawsuit in a US federal court seeking to block the Department of Justice from releasing audio recordings and transcripts of interviews conducted with his memoir ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer.

The material was obtained during Special Counsel Robert Hur’s classified documents investigation and is now at the center of a major transparency dispute.

Special Counsel Robert Hur previously found that Biden improperly retained classified records but declined to recommend criminal charges.

His report also described Biden’s memory as having “significant limitations” and noted slow, strained interviews that intensified political scrutiny in Washington.

Justice Department officials argue the recordings should be released to ensure transparency, claiming they may help the public assess Biden’s mental fitness during his time in office.

The department says prior objections were reversed under new policy direction.

Biden’s legal team says the interviews are private conversations protected under federal privacy law.

They argue that releasing them would violate the Privacy Act and Administrative Procedure Act, and accuse the government of attempting to disclose sensitive material for political exposure.

This case could set a major precedent for how private presidential memoir interviews are treated in relation to public interest, transparency laws, and political accountability in the United States.

Federal judges will now weigh privacy protections against public interest arguments before deciding whether the recordings can be released, with the outcome expected to influence future cases involving former presidents and classified investigations.
