National News – Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and members of the Ekiti State Council of Elders have mourned the death of respected elder statesman Adebayo Daramola, who died at the age of 98.
The prominent community leader, educationist, and former Chairman of Oye Local Government passed away in the early hours of Monday in Ekiti State.
His death has drawn tributes from political leaders, community elders, and family members who described him as a guiding voice in the state’s political and social development.
Governor Oyebanji visited the residence of the late Daramola on Monday to condole with his family. During the visit, the governor described the deceased as a moral compass and a towering figure whose life influenced generations of Ekiti people.
According to the governor, Daramola’s contributions to education, community development, and leadership helped shape the growth of Ekiti State over several decades.
The governor explained that Daramola’s passing marked the end of an era but noted that his values of discipline, knowledge, and service to society would continue to inspire future generations.
The President of the Ekiti State Council of Elders, Joseph Oluwasanmi, also paid tribute to the late statesman through the council’s Secretary, Niyi Ajibulu.
He noted that Daramola was the council’s oldest member and served as a pillar of wisdom whenever the group faced difficult decisions.
Ajibulu revealed that members of the council had already begun discussions with the late elder about plans to celebrate his centenary birthday in June 2027.
However, he said fate had taken a different course.
The Council’s Vice President, Deji Fasuan, described Daramola as a respected family man who lived an honourable and impactful life.
Fasuan recalled that the deceased was his senior at Christ School, Ado Ekiti, before proceeding to Fourah Bay College in Sierra Leone for further education.
Other members of the council, including Femi Ajayi and Folu Oni, also described the late leader as intelligent, humble, and deeply devoted to his community and church.
They noted that he served as a patron of All Saints Anglican Church, Ado Ekiti, where he played significant leadership roles.
Daramola is survived by several children, including former House of Representatives member Bimbo Daramola.
