National News – Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State has warned politicians, party members and supporters against violence ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that anyone involved in political unrest during the APC primaries will face strict legal action.

The governor gave the warning on Wednesday during a statewide broadcast in Gombe, where he addressed preparations for the upcoming party primaries and the need to maintain peace across the state.

Yahaya explained that political parties are expected to conduct their primaries in line with the Electoral Act 2026 and the guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

According to him, the law allows parties to choose candidates either through direct primaries or consensus arrangements.

He noted that the All Progressives Congress initially adopted the consensus option with support from party leaders and elders.

The governor revealed that although many aspirants accepted the party’s endorsed candidates, disagreements from a few contenders prevented total consensus.

He said the APC would now conduct direct primaries to allow party members decide who would represent the party in the 2027 elections.

Yahaya described direct primaries as a transparent democratic process that gives every aspirant equal opportunity to seek support from party members.

He added that preserving peace and stability in Gombe State remained more important than political ambition.

The governor also directed security agencies to monitor political activities closely and take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt public order before, during or after the primaries.

He warned political actors against sponsoring violence, thuggery or intimidation.

Yahaya expressed concern over individuals he described as “conflict entrepreneurs” trying to create tension during the political season.

He urged political parties, aspirants and supporters to put the interest of Gombe State first and avoid actions capable of causing division or insecurity.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies to ensure peaceful primaries and credible elections across the state.
