National News – Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially sworn in Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.
The swearing-in ceremony, initially scheduled to hold at the Coronation Hall, was later relocated to the Africa House within the Government House premises in Kano.
Garo took the oath of office in the presence of top political figures, government officials, and stakeholders.
In his acceptance speech, he pledged to support the Yusuf-led administration and work toward delivering sustainable development across the state.
He emphasized his commitment to unity, continuity in governance, and policies that improve the welfare of Kano residents.
The event drew notable political personalities, including former governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Ibrahim Shekarau, highlighting the significance of the transition within the state’s leadership structure.
The appointment of Garo follows the resignation of former Deputy Governor Aminu Gwarzo, who stepped down on March 27, 2026.
His resignation came amid rising political tensions, allegations of misconduct, and looming impeachment proceedings by the state assembly.
After leaving office, Gwarzo briefly joined the African Democratic Congress before resigning from the party in May 2026.
Observers say Garo’s emergence is expected to stabilize the political climate in Kano and strengthen the administration’s policy direction.
Analysts also note that his experience in governance could play a key role in advancing ongoing development initiatives in the state.
The Kano State Government has assured residents that the new leadership arrangement will focus on inclusive governance, economic growth, and improved public service delivery.
More details surrounding policy direction and administrative changes are expected in the coming days.
