National News – Businessman and oil and gas entrepreneur Abdulhameed Omotayo has emerged as the consensus senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.

The PDP primary election was held on Wednesday at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where party leaders, delegates, and supporters endorsed Omotayo’s candidacy in a consensus arrangement.

Speaking after his emergence, Omotayo, popularly known as OmoOwo, thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide inclusive representation and accessible leadership for residents of Ogun East.

He stated that his ambition is focused on rebuilding trust between elected officials and the people through constant engagement, fairness, and community-driven development.

The businessman explained that his campaign would be anchored on equity, justice, peace, and sustainable progress.

According to him, every community in Ogun East deserves equal attention, quality representation, and participation in governance regardless of political affiliation or social status.

He also promised to promote youth inclusion and encourage first-time voters to actively participate in the democratic process.

Omotayo highlighted his decades of experience in business and Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, noting that his private-sector background would help him deliver practical leadership and institution-building strategies if elected into the Senate.

He assured party supporters that he would remain accessible to constituents and establish technology-driven constituency offices across Ogun East to improve communication and responsiveness.

The PDP candidate further stressed that his campaign would avoid bitterness and political division, adding that unity and development would remain central to his message.

His emergence comes as the PDP continues efforts to strengthen its structure in Ogun State following recent internal leadership challenges and political realignments across Nigeria.
