National News – Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, describing him as a custodian of history, culture, and traditional wisdom.
The governor’s condolence message was issued on Thursday through his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, following the monarch’s passing, which has thrown Ilawe Ekiti and the wider Ekiti State into mourning.
Oyebanji noted that Oba Alabi, who served as Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers between 2019 and 2021, played a vital role in conflict resolution, governance support, and community stability, using his influence to mediate disputes and promote peace across the state.
He further stated that the late monarch was widely respected for his intellect and ability to articulate issues affecting traditional institutions in Nigeria, earning him recognition as a national voice among royal fathers.
The governor described the death as a monumental loss to the people of Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State, and the traditional institution, praying for strength and comfort for the royal family, associates, and citizens affected by the loss.
The late monarch’s reign was marked by efforts to strengthen traditional governance structures, foster youth engagement, and support local development initiatives in Ilawe Ekiti.
His leadership style blended cultural preservation with modern advisory roles in state affairs, making him a respected bridge between tradition and government.
His death has continued to draw tributes from traditional rulers, community leaders, and citizens across Ekiti State.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the royal family.
